Mid to late 19th century Ame ri can Folk Art antique lathe-turned, doweled construction, hand painted wooden wall coat racks & other decorative furniture & accessories. 9 ¼" Width x 2 ¼" Height x 5 ¼ Depth. A very scarce and simply extraordinary mid-late 19th century Ame ri can Folk Art antique handmade, lathe-turned, dowel construction, double bulbous knob end, hand painted wooden wall coat rack, with two rear metal hangers for wall mounting. It features absolutely untouched, original paint on its surfaces.
The paint present on the turned wooden coat hanger is in the form of hand painted, double sepia brown striping, with a recessed, painted white line sandwiched in between. This banding repeats itself five times on the curvilinear, half-round base of the clothes hanger and only once on the exaggerated, bulbous knob ends, held to the base by sturdy, inserted dowels. The entire wood piece, most likely made from maple hardwood and not from softer pine, was entirely lacquered to preserve the decorated wood finish from coats and other outer wear dampened from the moisture of rain, early morning humidity and dew. Found very recently in north-central Massachusetts. It's estate fresh and new to the marketplace. A wonderful, spectacular piece of Ame ri can antique painted woodenware and mid to late 19th century antique Ame ri can Folk Art. Good to Very Good overall antique condition.
