Elegant Elliott of London Caddy Top Bracket Clock. Stellar artist decorated Chinoiserie lacquer finish on hardwood case.
Operating sales showrooms and service facilities in the Chicago suburbs during the 1970s, I was proud to offer a wide selection of prestigious Elliott clocks. Yes; that's The Clocksmith fifty years ago. T hroughout the late 19th and 20th centuries, J. Elliott produced premier quality traditional clocks benchcrafted at the family owned Croydon facility.
The firm was one of less than a handful of British clockmakers operating their own cabinet shop. Elliott steadfastly refused to compromise quality. Not a single element is plastic. Chinoiserie lacquered cases were the most costly of the shelf, mantel and floor clock range. This model 2822 is unquestionably the best preserved Elliott timepiece I've encountered.Others are available, but none compare with aesthetics of this beauty. The 8-day spring-driven movement with thick brass plates and cut steel pinions incorporates a 7-jewel lever platform escapement produced in France exclusively for Elliott clocks. This 11.5" high x 6.6" wide x 3.8 deep shelf or mantel clock displays handsomely. It is offered in good operating order, checked over to ensure reliability.
