Antique Bookcase or Curio Cabinet hand crafted between late 1800's and early 1900's as a gun cabinet. It has been in the family since 1939. My in-laws bought it at an estate sale in 1939 and my father-in-law kept his law books in it.
The glass doors are lockable and it has two drawers. We think it was originally made as a gun cabinet however we have used it to display fine china and other valued items.
The wood is hardwood but I was not sure what kind. I asked my friend who spent his career in high end furniture and he believes it is made of white oak. Close inspection leads me to believe that it is custom made, hand crafted in New England sometime in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The glass in the doors is wavy and has some small bubbles which also leads me to guess the time of it's creation. It is very heavy and rolls on steel or brass casters.
We have downsized and it is too big for our current home. As much as we hate to give it up it's just too big. The depth shown is the overall depth. The cabinet interior is 48 1/4" h x 40 3/8" w x 8 1/2 deep and the shelves are vertically adjustable.
The detailing is great and I it hope shows in the photos. A sale can be made risk free pending final inspection.
