This offering is for an antique very early 19th century Tip Top Candlestand. The table is made of mahogany with a single board top the measures app. 25" in maximum diameter, 24.5" when measured across the grain. The table also measures app. 26.75 high when the top is folded down for use.
The base is joined to the block with a square mortise and the legs are dovetailed to the column with a hand wrought iron plate covering the underside. The beautifully arching legs have string inlay on the top surfaces and they end in an exaggerated spade foot. The column features a wonderful twisted elongate ball and ring turnings. The surface appears to be very early and it quite possibly the original with a dry crusty surface on the legs and proper wear to the table top. There were two repairs done many many years ago.
There was a split repaired on the block and also a split that was pegged on the leg to make sure it didn't break. Both have early repairs tags attached near the work.
