Recently brought over from the Scandinavian region. This Antique Denmark Hunters Cabinet is unlike anything Ive ever had the opportunity of acquiring in all my years in this business! Dating from the mid to late 1700s you will notice there are many unique one of a kind carvings that reveal the attention to detail from the artisan that created this masterpiece.
There are Carved Angel faces at each end of the cabinet, a Cherub that has wrangled a serpent? Looking upward towards the sky, Acanthus leaves circumventing three sides of the upper apron, barley twist columns that run along each side, geometric shapes on the front side of the bottom door, A hunter with a bugle and his hounds chasing a fox, with many detailed carved trees in the background on the upper door, and there are many hand forged nails that keep the piece together. The two doors have locks that are primitive and there are 2 keys. The locking of the doors no longer lock due to the age... VERY OLD please examine the pictures and I will send more if needed.
The drawer is extraordinary with deep carved grooved rail construction. The 2 sides of the cabinet and the inside shelves are oak panels. The back has carved edged boards that have the. Signature W/W N5 k Jobenhau is what I read. You will find scratches and some cracks on the boards all COMMENSURATE from the age and use of this item. This cabinet can be used as a liquor/wine cabinet or to just simply store items. Extremely RARE and one would be hard pressed to come across something like this ever again.
