Here is a late 18th century, Pennsylvania--York or Chester County to be precise--ladderback chair. Made of local ash, it has a wonderful yellow patina under old varnish.
It features beautiful, finely detailed turning on all the legs and back support. The original finials on the top are undamaged.
The arms are rounded and tapered--they almost hug the sitter. Note the graduated back slats, typical for the style of chair. The rush seat may well be replaced but not recently and is in excellent condition. The chair structurally is super solid and comfy!
