This mahogany chair has a padded low back with a scroll-ended top-rail over up-swept sides, above a stuffed seat within massive padded bolster arms with fruit and leaf-carved baluster arms with mushroom-shaped headers on foliate-carved compressed block feet. The curious design with its lavish use of mahogany, is most likely North European, perhaps Low Countries or Germany, and its stylised pattern suggests the influence of Art Nouveau. No maker has been traced; the design is very much a "one off".
