MID-LATE 19TH CENTURY AMERICAN (NEW HAMPSHIRE) ANTIQUE HANDMADE. WOODEN FOOT STOOL, IN OLD.
DRY ORIG RED WASH PAINT. 19th century American painted furniture.
6" Height x 13 ½" Width x 7 ½ Depth. Offered for your careful consideration and review is this untouched and undisturbed mid-late 19th century American handmade wooden primitive foot stool, in its original dry, red wash paint. It was recently discovered here in southern New Hampshire and hasn't been dusted, rinsed or tampered with. It remains as it always was and with the same dry red paint wash it was originally decorated in. The wooden stool features very simple construction, with a one board pine top, two contiguous, cut-out pine side boards, of which two of the stool's legs are cut out. The long sides of the foot stool feature two soft, cut-out side boards, dropping down from the top and framing the stool and acting as both decorative trim and also as needed structural support. This is precisely why 19th century American primitive painted furniture has so much in common with its much later American Minimalist counterparts.
The stool is, as with the later, Modernist Bauhaus design tradition, a seamless and beautiful blending of form and function. Outstanding, authentic and fresh to the marketplace. Mercifully left alone and not'improved' by less-than-informed and less-than capable hands this one got away from the'Home Improvement Department. Exceptional, with minimal decoration and simple, straightforward, austere form. This is what American primitives are all about.
