Elliott of London Westminster / Whittington Chiming Large Bracket Clock. George II style - exotic circassian walnut veneered mahogany caddy top case. Operating sales showrooms and service facilities in the Chicago suburbs during the 1970s, I was proud to offer a wide selection of prestigious Elliott clocks.

Yes; that's The Clocksmith fifty years ago. T hroughout the late 19th and 20th centuries, J. Elliott produced premier quality traditional clocks benchcrafted at the family owned Croydon facility. The firm was one of less than a handful of British clockmakers operating their own cabinet shop. Elliott steadfastly refused to compromise quality.

Not a single element is plastic. Even wood strips securing glass are finished.

The mahogany case with push-button front door release survived 75 years absent shrinkage, veneer cracks or lifting. The high luster closed pore rubbed lacquer finish displays marvelous sheen, patina and colour. Elliott's proprietary machined brass "T" winding key is unparalleled in the industry. The 8-day spring-driven movement with thick brass plates and cut steel pinions incorporates several features unique to Elliott manufacture. Among them, a back mounted knob for selecting quarter-hour Westminster chimes on four bronze rods, or eight note Whittington melody.

Hours are counted on three hammers striking simultaneously. The jeweled lever escapement platform was produced in France exclusively for Elliott clocks. The 15.5 high, 11.3 lbs mantel clock displays handsomely.

It is offered in good operating order, checked over to ensure reliability. NOTE: At some point, the star wheel with snail cam operating automatic night silence was removed. However, chime and strike can be manually turned off using the selector arm extending through the dial at 3:00 o'clock. Please review descriptive information and study the photographs for details.

I'm available to answer any and all questions / concerns. As a point of comparative reference, a 1970s Elliott #5246 bracket clock is offered by Lambertville, New Jersey merchant Jack Francis LLC. The final two snapshots following my credentials page were sourced from the Chairish site.

This version in straight grain mahogany was less costly than the burr walnut veneered model. Elegant English bracket clock with mahogany case. Well made and chimes on every quarter hour with either Westminster or Whittington and also a silent feature. Elliott of London was considered the best clock maker in the 20th Century and made clocks for all the high end retailers and jewelry stores.

Complete with the original signature style Elliott of London key. 15-1/2" high, 9" wide, and 6 deep. The actual face is 5-1/2" in diameter".
